ESDC 2013 Closure

Successful driving day

We had a great driving day last Sunday. It was a very successful day with great people and energetic team. Despite the fact that the Bath city centre was very busy last Sunday we managed to run the event very smooth and stress free. Thanks to our drivers, co-drivers, volunteers, media team and University of Bath security and support team. We look forward to see them all at our public lecture and award ceremony today.

Public lecture and award ceremony

Public lecture  by Dr Nick Reed and Award Ceremony for Eco Safe Driving Challenge 2013

Dr Nick Reed is the Principal Human Factors Researcher at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). His research focus is on driver behaviour, particularly using driving simulation for behavioural analysis.

Award Ceremony 2013His background is in psychology and his DPhil was in visual perception and cognition. He now uses this experience in the applied domain to understand and investigate driver behaviour. Nick lead TRL's development of research related to vehicle automation to understand how the introduction of technology that reduces the responsibility of a driver for safe control of a vehicle may affect road transport. He currently represent TRL in the European iMobility working group on Automation in Road Transport and in the EU-funded support action, Vehicle and Road Automation.

Following Nick’s presentation will be the award ceremony for the Eco Safe Driving Challenge 2013. The event is to be held on Sunday November 24th, starting at the University. The challenge allows drivers to complete a pre-determined course in their own vehicle, fitted with our instrumentation in order to assess the safety and fuel economy of their driving style. There are awards for the best performing driver in each category.
